Burger at Rustic Canyon Wine Bar and Seasonal Kitchen

The bun is a standard brioche, but the toppings have been chosen for maximum impact; that's where the burger sings. Chef Evan Funke's tart, pickley, Thousand Island-esque dressing pulls it all together -- the sharp cheddar blanketing the burger, the caramelized onions, the heap of arugula. At $18, this is on the upper end of the gourmet burger price range, but that includes fries, which are among the best we've ever eaten.

Around The Web

Rustic Canyon chef Evan Funke might just be the reluctant messiah of burgerdom. While his deepest culinary talents lay beyond burger borders, he's unable to restrain his creative impulses when it comes to the burger canvas. On Mondays you can grab one of Funke's burger creations and a craft beer for a reduced price. Tonight it's the Tomato Burrata Burger paired with Uncommon Brewers Siamese Twin Ale for $16 and (what might be a game-changer) The Breakfast Burger with one of my favorites, the Craftsman 1903.
